If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably gone to your local news website to get educated on what’s going on in your community. Crime, heart-warming stories, tragedy, finance, etc – all information you could possibly need is readily available at the tips of your fingers. Unfortunately, these news outlets are also notorious for those internet tough guys, ignorant/racist dickheads, and people trying way too hard to be funny when it’s totally uncalled for.
My paper of choice (aside from writing for the Pembroke Mariner) is the Patriot Ledger. The downside to this Quincy-housed newspaper are the droves of ignorant and seemingly racist cocksuckers that spew absolute vile lines of hate and stereotypes anonymously, under the guise of a user-created screen name. The Ledger is swarmed by these presumably 30-50 year old virgins that alternate between eating cereal with their hands and typing hatespeech with one hand while the other attempts to coax their inverted manhood out from under their prevalent beer bellies.

Today’s case was the story of the 16 year old Randolph boy that was seemingly shot and killed inside a home near his own and left on the sidewalk to die. Commenters (before the comment section was closed due to abuse) opined that “he probably got got for selling crack” or “he was a good kid that was getting his GED so he could go to MIT and better himself with a degree in garbage maintenance“. Other commenters went to the ol’ go-to and assumed that he was “probably a Mass Health and Section 8 welfare recipient that got killed for his check”.

As with any story written that has any ties to a town/city like Brockton, Randolph, Quincy, Weymouth, Dorchester/Roxbury/Mattapan, the droves of racists get presumably rock hard at a chance to spit slanderous, illegible, and unintelligible bullshit in an attempt to make their pathetic existence seem worthwhile. For the rest of the logical folks, myself included, I’ll only read the story so as to learn a little more about a situation, without jumping to ridiculous conclusions and attempting to incite a riot with shit that normal, socially conscious people would never verbalize or even think, in most cases.

Here’s your task for the day – go to any news website and read a story about violence, drugs, or even life in a specific town. Then scroll down to the comments and read the shit that inbreds come up with. It’s more mortifying than it is indicative of the cultural shift of people who won’t likely be identified due to their propensity to anonymously comment on a message board. People have zero couth or tact in regards to anything involving minorities or towns that are in an economic depression. They’ll slander those involved, the families of those involved, the upbringing, financial background, and the mental capacities of the subjects of the stories, regardless of the tone or background of said people.

Remember the sayings, “Do unto others as you’d want others to do unto you”, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”, or “If you wouldn’t say it at your dinner table, don’t say it in public”? Yeah, if you’re a commenter on a news website, chances are you’re not the sharpest knife in the draw…or you have a room full of Nazi memorabilia.
